Genealogist: Brian Mitchell
Derry Genealogy Centre, which is now part of Heritage and Museum Service of Derry City Council, has created a database of over one million records, dating from 1642 to 1922, which were extracted from the major civil and church registers of the city and county Derry. This database contains pre-1922 civil birth and marriage registers and the early baptismal and marriage registers of 97 churches (38 Roman Catholic Church, 24 Church of Ireland and 35 Presbyterian).
You can now search, for free, the indexes to the database of Derry Genealogy Centre at http://derry.brsgenealogy.com and then purchase, on a pay-per-view basis, any selected record. As the search facility on this website is very flexible it means that family history researchers should be able to determine if any entries of interest to their family history are held in its database. For example, if you are searching for the birth/baptism of a child you can narrow the search down by year, range of years, father's first name and by district of birth/parish of baptism.
The Genealogist, Brian Mitchell, has been involved in local, family and emigration research in the wider Derry area since 1982. You may book a free 15 minutes consultation with the genealogist at the Harbour Museum, Derry: 028 7137 7331; or genealogy@derrycity.gov.uk.

The Law Centre is a not for profit agency working to advance social rights in Northern Ireland. As we operate as a referral organisation, our offices in Belfast and Derry do not offer a service directly to the public. Organisations which use the Law Centre’s advice and information resources are encouraged to become members.
The library seeks to support caseworkers representing clients in the areas of employment, immigration, social security, community care and mental health, and also carries more general information on social welfare which feeds into our new Policy Unit.
The Law Centre's library holds a collection of over 1000 books plus journals relating to our specialist areas of law, as well as newsletters, bulletins and reports from the voluntary and statutory sectors. The book collection is held on a database and a complete list of journal holdings cans be found on our website. Members of the public are welcome to use the library for reference purposes by arrangement with the librarian.
Further information on the Law Centre, including information on our training courses and the work of the Policy Unit, can be found on our website, together with the Encyclopaedia of Rights, an updated guide to the law in the areas we cover. Visit the site at www.lawcentreni.org

To this end it works closely with the local library, publishing, bookselling and printing communities. Belfast Central Library and the Linen Hall Library, Belfast are the two lead partners in NIPR and dedicated repositories have been set up within these institutions to house the collection.

The items are not available for loan to individuals but under certain circumstances may be loaned to other libraries.
